Fun in the Sun? Why using Sun Cream is so important

Skin care starts with sun cream

Living in the UK we don't see the sun that often, and when we do it's very tempting to try and enjoy those precious rays as much as possible. But research shows that the sun's rays are incredibly damaging to our skin.

Skin care experts claim that as much as 80% of skin damage can be attributed to damage from the sun. The great news is that if you start early enough you can prevent sun damage and protect your skin.

As part of any skin care regime it is essential that you are using sun block with an SPF rating of 30 at least, and 50 at best. People often overlook the UVA rating but this is equally as important as the SPF and you should be aiming for at least four stars.

We recommend this great SPF50+ light non-greasy sunscreen from Etude House - Sunprise Mild Airy SPF50

A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and avoiding the sun between the hours of 11am and 3pm - when it's at it's strongest - can also help minimise skin damage.

skin care begins with sun protection

The sun can damage your skin even on a cloudy day, so you need to get in the habit of applying sun screen in the morning even if the weather outside isn't looking too summery. Don't forget that on a bright day you will need to reapply to ensure a constant level of protection.

Unfortunately, damage done by the sun to the skin is irreversible, but by getting in the habit now of protecting yourself you can prevent further damage.
