Beginners Guide to Skincare Serum

Guide to Skin Care Serum

Skincare can get very confusing very quickly. As soon as you've got the hang of cleanser - toner - moisturiser then you realise that there are all these other products available.

So what is a Serum and how is it useful?

A serum is a strong active formula designed to penetrate the skin and solve a specific problem. They contain smaller molecules that can go deep into the skin and get to work delivering the active ingredients.

If you're not currently using a serum then consider adding it to your routine for improved results. They are especially useful for more mature skin as their penetrating design means they can boost skin that may need help as the ageing process kicks in.

Fitting It In

Serums should be used after cleansing and toning. Moisturise after applying to lock in the beneficial ingredients and keep them working for longer.

Which Serum is good for me?

Each specific serum will have been developed to address a certain problem, but there are some general trends. Understanding your skin type and noticing any issues your skin has will guide you in choosing the right one for you.

 Moisturising Serum

For a hit of intense moisture choose a serum containing Hyaluronic Acid. The serum will deliver the moisture deep into the skin which makes the effects more pronounced and long-lasting.

Refresh recommends: It's Skin Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Serum. This serum contains that all-important acid plus extracts of the Acerola berry which is rich in vitamin C and other anti-oxidants.

Balancing Serum

If your skin is feeling sensitive or unusually dry or oily it may be because your natural oil balance needs some help. Balancing serums contain ingredients that soothe the skin and promote a healthy oil-moisture balance.

Calming Serum

If you're suffering from irritated or damaged skin then you may need a calming serum. These serums are generally lighter and include anti-inflammatory ingredients to calm and heal the skin.

Experiment

As with all skincare products, what works for your skin is personal to you. Try adding a serum to your routine and take care to notice any changes in the condition of your skin.
